THE DEAF LANGUAGE MODELS
They live all over the United States and have a variety of backgrounds. We want you to be exposed to different styles of ASL. We all have various backgrounds and no two deaf signers are the same. No matter how long you've been signing, you'll always be learning new things!

WHAT MAKES THE SIGNING ROOM SHINE?
Everyone learns at a different pace on their journey from a beginner to an advanced signer! We destroy the traditional learning model and focus on learning through exciting and engaging conversation. We strongly believe in practical learning instead of formal and structured teaching. Our unique method accelerates people's growth faster than the traditional classroom style.
However, we don't teach beginning ASL such as the ABC's and starting vocabulary.
Once you have your basics under your belt, you are ready to explode your language with us in the Signing Room.
AM I READY?
If you know a lot of vocabulary and know the basics of signing, then you are capable of making basic conversation. You are ready for The Signing Room.CHECK MY LEVEL

I just completed the “5 Days of ASL” with the Online Itinerant and I learned so much. The pacing was great, the lessons were captivating, and the content was extremely relevant. My greatest take-away was remembering to see the world visually when signing. After all, you can see so much more detail when you place things in space as opposed to signing the prepositions! I HIGHLY recommend this one of you are learning or brushing up on your ASL!
- Maria Springer
(Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing)
Thank you Stefanie and Shawn for the time and energy you put into our 5 Days ASL class! I learned some new valuable content such as how to sign time tenses (past, present, future) and was reminded of the importance of facial features while signing and showing emotion. What I really took away from this 5 Day class (plus my past phone conversation with Stefanie), however, is just how much I wanted to spend more time with Shawn and Stefanie. Wow! Despite being a recorded online session they both just made me want to hang out with them and sign more. They were genuine in their excitement to teach me more signing techniques and I felt encouraged and welcomed in this space. Thank you! I’m eager to work together more as my family and I work towards ASL fluency.
Within a few weeks of my granddaughter's birth, we learned that Hannah is deaf. She is two years old now and is the only deaf member of our family. Her parents, two sisters (ages 9 and 4), an aunt, and my wife and I started learning ASL, mostly online, once her deafness was confirmed. My ASL journey commenced with an online tutor that used a college textbook to cover ASL 1 and 2 with me. After completing this I joined the Signing Room. The DLMs have been a great help and I have enjoyed interacting with each of them. It has also been a confidence builder to be able to communicate in ASL with my fellow hearing students. It can be slow at times but it is very encouraging to know that we can communicate with each other in ASL. This has motivated me to continue on the ASL journey for not only Hannah but for the new friends I've met within the deaf community.

It is only one hour but it's packed with opportunities to learn ASL receptively and expressively non-stop. The hour goes away like 10 minutes leaving me hungry for more.
As I prepare for the NIC while stuck at home during COVID, it’s helped to keep me signing as I am unable to attend events, and while I have no signing students for the summer! It’s a really well-designed program and I’m really enjoying it.
I have also recommended it to some former colleagues and ASL students that I think would benefit!
- Rachel (Interpreter)
There's nothing like using a language you are trying to learn. Practice with other signers outside the classroom is the hardest thing to come by, and this format provides just enough structure to drive really focused practice. Bringing it into the home makes a huge difference - deaf meetups in our area take place in the evening or on college campuses, but childcare and bedtimes can be a barrier!
- David (Parent)
I like that there are different levels for people to go to the room and feel comfortable with whatever their signing level is. It builds confidence with my signing skills as well as teaching me new signs.
- Michelle McGill-Vargas
The Signing Room helps improve both receptive and expressive skills and is a "safe" place to be as you learn. Plus you make friendships with people all over the world.
